These twelve works were composed for modern classical guitar repertoire with the purpose of making the most out of what our music has to offer, and to strengthen, understand and in some cases, reclaim Chilean and Latin-American folkloric rhythms such as the Tonada, Cueca, Cachimbo and Huayno.
All of these rhythms have been graded by their technical and musical difficulty (levels I, II, III, easiest to hardest respectively). In each link there is specific information about each one of these genres as well as audio samples so the student or musician can gain a deeper understanding about the roots of this music.
Finally, to better understand the skills required and resources used in Chilean and Latin-American guitar practices, one can download materials published by the outstanding musician, composer and ethnomusicologist Sergio Sauvalle Echeverría, a person who has inspired me to base my creations upon the roots of our folklore.
This Project was supported by the Chilean National Music Fund of 2007.
